Does boycotting a company work? Maybe yes, maybe no, in some viral cases sure. But I contend that that is the wrong perspective for deciding whether or not to give them your money. I think the right perspective is to ignore the effectiveness of a boycott and concentrate on knowing that you are doing one small thing to help allay your own uncomfortable feelings that come from supporting companies that do not share your political or moral values.
Of course in this day and age it can be difficult to figure out which companies to avoid and which to support. The website Shop How You Vote seems to be a good place to start. It shows the political leanings of a lot of companies for the current year and for the past four years. Besides seeing at a glance those companies that are solidly left or right, it is interesting to see the shift in their political stance over the past year. Many, alas, seem to have red-shifted.
As with most of the links I share here, take it with a grain of salt. In particular note many asterisks that denote lack of data (I noticed Newsmax was all blue for this year and that can’t be correct). I will try to vet this site when I have time, but for now I am making the large assumption that it is fact-based and does not have a hidden agenda.
